Sometimes if the paint looses its adhesion to its panel support it can be necessary to remove the panel from the painting. 

This is a painstaking and skillful undertaking. Once all the wood is removed the painting can either be conserved onto a new panel or can be lined onto canvas.

Splits in panels can be repaired and strengthened.
